Welcome, Y'all!

Hello, people! Welcome to my blog, where I try my best to post my recent photography attempts and experiments. As you will presently find out, I do not claim to be a professional of any sort, but rather enjoy photography as a hobby. You probably won't find anything extraordinary or stupendously stunning, but hopefully it will bless you heart! Most of my "photographing" happens at home, around the farm, in the garden, or in different places around our little town. At any rate, I hope everything that I do and say brings honor to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and that you will be blessed by visiting this blog!
Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

...As a little Child

"Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein." --Mark 10:15

Happy Sunday!

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD!
Psalm 122:1

Well, I had a wonderful Lord's day today. Family, food, fellowship, and especially Granddaddy's message on Matthew 18. I'm so thankful to have such a humble, God-fearing man as my pastor! He used a quote by John Calvin in this morning's message that really struck me hard.

"That man (or woman) is truly humble who neither claims any personal merit in the sight of God, nor proudly despises brethren, or aims at being thought superior to them, but reckons it enough that he (or she) is one of the members of Christ, and desires nothing more than that the Head alone should be exalted."

Thought I'd just share that little tidbit with y'all. :P
Anyways, this morning, I woke up thinking we were being attacked from the sky until I realized it was just a crop duster over the grove. -_- Smh...Oh well. Since I was up anyways, I stumbled around for the camera and attempted to snap a few shots of it. ;)
Y'all have a wonderful rest of this Lord's Day!

CLSS {Cute Little Sibling Syndrome}

{Cute Little Sibling Syndrome}

What are the signs that I have CLSS??!

Well, you may suffer (or rather benefit from) the effects of CLSS if:

  • You find yourself making ridiculous noises. (You are actually trying to imitate your little sibling or convince him/her to smile for the camera, but unfortunately, others around you are not usually aware that this is the case.)
  • You take at least ten pictures of him/her/them each day.
  • You post on Facebook or your blog something *absolutely hilarious* that your little sibling/s has/have said almost every day. Always finding yourself disappointed because everyone else didn't quite see why it was so very funny...
  • The topic of conversation at the dinner table always becomes centered around your little siblings and how cute they are.
These are just a few of the symptoms of CLSS. I would know, as I am a happy victim of this not so rare disorder--in case you couldn't tell.....
Oh no! I feel one of the symptoms kicking in!!! I'm about to post numerous pictures of the most adorable
one- year old on the planet!!! Y'all had better keep your distance. It's contageous. :)

Y'all have a great day!

...Anything One's Merry Heart Could Desire

Okay, y'all. We are Southerners. The fact is, we like food.
Not just any food.
Like...good food.
Really good food.
Sometimes I feel like is all I do is eat!
It's a good thing alot of work goes on around here, or else
I'D BE REALLY FAT!
It seems like every time I turn around, I'm being offered FOOD!
I mean like any and every kind of wonderful food...
Anything one's merry heart could desire!
Cinnamon rolls, brownies,
chocolate chip cookies, fresh tomatoes
(very tempting for us tomato sandwich lovers),
warm, homemade bread, biscuits,
fresh brewed tea,
homemade doughnuts, fresh fruit off the tree,
breakfast, lunch, supper and all manner of things in between!
Oh well. As long as I keep up my daily exercise,
I think I may be able to continue enjoying this delightful Southern tradition of really good food!
{Actually, right now, I am enjoying a bowl of homemade Blueberry Sherbet} :D
Tonight, I have decided to scour our picture files for lovely photos of delicious culinary delights. :)
Enjoy, and don't get too hungry!

We love using recipes from the Southern Living Magazine.
These New Orleans Beignets are one of our favorites. :)

Margie made this Old Fashioned White Cake {recipe compliments of Aunt Katie} with chocolate icing for our Ice Cream Social this past June.

Family gatherings=lots of good food. :D

Hey, even our Equine friends can't deny a good treat once in a while. :)

Fresh fruit...the very best kind of treat! :)

Brussel sprouts and turnips fresh from the garden, and homemade rolls :)

Ahhh. The nectar of life. Orange juice. XD
 Num-num-num. :)
 Ready for "Cowboy Camp?"
 Pork&Beans
I think y'all can tell I was having fun experimenting with this one....it's rather pointless. ;)
But since this post is about food, it seems appropriate. :)
Split pea soup, homemade applesauce, and sweet tea brewed with a bag of Constant Comment. Ahhh!

Anyone who knows us knows how much we like to have tea....:)

 Fresh grapefruit :):)

I made this angel food cake for Grandmama's birthday,
and Callie made some wonderful lemon curd to go on top. :)
 Fresh strawberry smoothies. :D
 MmmmMmm! Cane syrup!
Good on pancakes, biscuits, or anything you'd normally put maple syrup on!
We found that it makes delectable caramel-corn balls :)
 Peanut butter cookies--my personal favorite.
 Peanut butter/chocolate fudge. :D
Garden-fresh tomatoes. I think I'm gonna have to have a tomato sandwich now. :P
Some of Cal's whole wheat bread. Hot out of the oven with butter=absolute Heaven on Earth :-o
 Making homemade ice cream. :D
Well, that's all for now, y'all. Hope you enjoyed! I hear Grandmother and Granddaddy at the door. Hmm....maybe I should make some brownies...
May the Lord richly bless you.
"Bon Appetit!"

Some hae meat and canna eat,

And some wad eat that want it;

But we hae meat, and we can eat,

And sae the Lord be thankit.

Hey, hey Hay!

Hey, y'all! Sorry it's been so long since I updated my poor, rather neglected blog.  (Not that anyone is going to be majorly suffering by my lack of diligence....)  Anyhow, here are some pictures that I took of a nearby field being hayed. Hay makes me smile. :) :)
Have a happy day, people!

The Lord's blessings be upon y'all!

When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.
Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them.
The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.
Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the south.
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

Silliness

What four Stricklen girls do for fun at 1:00 am. :)

 Here we have the 1100's....

 1500's....

 1700's...

 ..Don't ask. ;)

Aaaand.....our plan was to do the
  1810-1820's
1860's
1920's-1930's
1940's
and 1950's, etc....
Buuut.....Well, some of us kind of....fell asleep. :P
Hope you enjoyed partaking in a little bit of our silliness. Maybe we'll finish some other night. ;)

In Christ,
